Our top picks for February half term

Enjoy a lazy lunch overlooking the beautiful Camel Estuary, snuggle up by a log burner or wrap up warm for winter walks. In North Cornwall there is plenty to keep every generation happy and here we count down ten properties that are perfect for a half term getaway.


Solan, Polzeath

Solan is within easy reach of everything Polzeath has to offer, from stunning coastal walks, rolling surf and the excellent cafés. Spend the morning dashing across the beach and splashing along the shoreline in wellies before heading to one of the waterside cafes for a warming hot chocolate, with cream and marshmallows of course! Afterwards, head home, snuggle up on the sofa and enjoy a family movie marathon.

The Orchard, Rock

The Orchard is tucked away in a private estate on the banks of the Camel Estuary and enjoys fantastic views across the water. On Cant Farm you can enjoy a rejuvenating break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Don hats and scarves for a walk around the peaceful grounds, taking in the breathtaking views and even discover a tennis court, perfect for a family tennis tournament.


Pinetree Lodge, Polzeath

Surfers will love this spacious home tucked away in a quiet part of New Polzeath. Here you are just a short walk away from the golden sands and crashing waves of Polzeath Beach. Spend a morning working up an appetite with a walk through the dunes at Rock Beach before heading to The Mariners Pub for a long lazy lunch. Sample Paul Ainsworth's excellent food coupled with a pint or two of Sharp's Brewery's finest ales, all whilst overlooking the Camel Estuary.

Appleby, Daymer Bay

Appleby is perfectly placed between Polzeath and Daymer Bay it makes the ideal base for exploring the local area on foot. Slip on your wellington boots, gather the family and set off for a walk on the coastal footpath towards the sweeping sandy bay of Daymer Bay. From here you can walk to Rock or challenge each other to a race up Brea Hill.


The Linhaye, Port Isaac

The Linhaye is nestled in the sleepy hamlet of Trefreock on the fringes of the iconic fishing village of Port Isaac. Head out for the day and amble along the winding country lane that leads down into Port Isaac. As you reach Port Isaac and roam the narrow streets you will be able to spot locations made famous in Doc Martin and The Fisherman's Friends movie. Why not slip in to one of the charming cafés that overlook the harbour and treat yourself to a Cornish cream tea?


Cowrie, Rock

Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at Cowrie before ambling down the Rock Road to meet the passenger ferry that runs across to Padstow. This short and scenic journey tugs across the Camel Estuary and lands in the lively harbour town of Padstow. Whilst in Padstow head to one of the many excellent cafés that line the harbour for a fish and chip lunch or a traditional Cornish cream tea.

Penhwedhi, Polzeath

At Penhwedhi you are perfectly placed to discover the challenging and beautiful coastal path walks that surround Polzeath. Set off for Pentire Point and The Rumps and take in some of the most stunning scenery. Why not pack a flask of hot tea and pick a sheltered spot to enjoy a cup of tea whilst keeping an eye on the sea to try and spot the local wildlife and birds. Return to Penhwedhi and refuel with a hearty home cooked dinner prepared in the stylish and modern kitchen.


Slipper Rock, Rock

Slipper Rock is a beautifully decorated contemporary property on the Rock Road, based within easy reach of everything Rock has to offer. This modern home is a cosy retreat during the winter months. After a day of exploring Rock and once you have lungs full of fresh sea-salted air, retreat back to Slipper Rock and warm fingers and toes by the fireside.
