If you haven’t been to The Upper Deck in a while, you’ll notice a few changes. After a full refurb last autumn, this Rock favourite has had a refresh - nothing drastic, just a subtle update that's made it even more welcoming. The same relaxed atmosphere, the same stunning estuary views, just with a little extra shine.

Inside, things feel lighter and brighter, with warm wood tones and soft lighting making it the kind of place you can settle into, whether that’s for a quick coffee or a long, leisurely dinner. The open-air terrace is still the spot for sundowners, with uninterrupted views across to Padstow (and the occasional excuse to order 'just one more' drink).

The menu still champions local and seasonal produce, with Head Chef David Townsend working closely with suppliers to bring the best of what’s available. Expect slow-cooked ragùs and hearty pastas when there’s a chill in the air, then lighter, Mediterranean-inspired plates through the summer months - plenty of seafood, plenty of colour. Porthilly mussels are a staple (you can see the farm from the balcony), and from October to March, the Sunday roast makes its well-loved return.

It’s not just about the food, though. Weekends might mean live piano in the evenings, while supper clubs and seasonal events bring a mix of familiar faces and new ones. It’s the kind of place that suits a post-walk coffee as much as it does a candle-lit dinner. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged friend along too.

So, if you haven’t been in a while, now’s a good time to swing by. Familiar, yet fresh - just how we like it.
